Great Mema's late night visitor. One

2014-08-22 - E Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
This little toddler has fuzzed out and matured
since the day over a week ago when we first met the kitten, placed on by its Mom on a porch chair, and whose mother continuously moves the baby from location to location. Plain Mema - Linda - has dubbed the kitten "One," thinking he is an only child. If we discover there are more, he/she can always be re-Christened "First," or "One-of." Try as Great Mema - Geniece - could, and she's a great conversationalist - her animalspeak is nigh perfect - the kitten remained notional, none too happy with the affection and he seems to communicate that with his ears. The whole Great Mema/kitten encounter was carefully monitored by Momma Cat whose unfriendliness makes one think she is not an "owned" cat, if that term is possible, but if the kitten is a member of a feral family and we never see it again, we'll probably always remember it. Even if it's weeks from now, we're at the supper table, no one knows a good joke to tell and Great Mema starts the most enjoyable time of the day, asking, "Wonder what ever happened to that little kitten - the one Ed found and Linda named 'One,'" kickstarting an entertaining session of stories; stories of the pathos of Neurotica, the antics of Kentucky, the wisdom and understanding of Bill Clinton, and other stories in the family series, the Cats of Our Lives. - ED WAGGENER
