Thanks for the morning: An early morning walker

2014-07-31 - Indian Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo CM Staff Photo. There's no sign inviting walking for health and relaxation. No acronym has be developed at extraordinary cost by a government bureaucrats. There's been no meetings. No special apparel sold. It's just happening: An early morning walker is taking advantage of the inviting natural and safe walking campus, here on Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. At other times one might families, or bikers, or a lone runner silhouetted against a beautiful panoramic background. Another park which is not labeled a park. It's just happening. People are drawn to it and use it. The development is following a Dr. John Begley quote the school superintendent is fond of quoting, "You don't pour a concrete walk until you see where people want to walk." Columbia has so many natural "parks." The college campus. Columbia City Cemetery - ah, to have it wrested from the hostage holders who don't want to share it fully; the Historic Downtown. And the Adair County School District Campus, whose potential for use for the entire community is now being realized and the visualization, then realization of the Burkesville Street Mall - Columbia's version of Boulder's Pearl Street Mall There is renewed optimism now that Columbians will see a series of parks, done at low or no investment, by just taking advantage of what's already here and become what many in the past have visualized, a city of parks, commonsense health, and a beautiful Walkable City it should be. - EW
