Town & Jamestown Hills: A strip to shop; not hills to shoot 2014-07-25 - Town/Jamestown Hills, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener. There's a lot of activity on both sides of Jamestown Street in the 100 block to just past Guthrie Street, and some really significant businesses. One of them, Lynn's Service Center, already the last service station, will soon be the the last place in the county were an attendant pumps your gas, cleans your windshield, checks your oil and air, while you sit in your car. (Notably: Sue Stivers has said that the reason she keeps working is so she can have someone else pump her gas.) It's also home to so much more. There are some 16-17 active businesses and vacancies for two or more in addition, in the strip. There's an eatery that's a decades old landmark, "Sweets & Eats," a salon, insurance agency, government offices, the new Farm2Furniture outlet, Green River Arts academy, a school, Grider Properties (now in the process of moving), a loan office, a car wash being renovated, even, at 200 Jamestown Street, a place to find a computer expert. The point: it's a village within a village. Best served by slower moving traffic whose destination is primary this shopping area. With a little design change, through semi's would use the bypass, and entry and exits from these businesses would be easier. Maybe a way could be found to add some on street parking, as was here when Downtown was where it all was, where everyone came on Saturday. There's data somewhere, we sure, which correlates slower traffic with high sales. Permalink | Comments?
