Garden Oddities: The biggest cabbage yet

2014-07-04 - Farmers Market on the Square, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Sandy Evert. Donna Jones, of Big Black Dog Farms better know for its superb honey products, has a great green thumb. The huge head of cabbage from from BBDF, for sale at her stand at the Farmer's Market on the Square, in the Adair Annex Parking Lot, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY, last Saturday, June 28, 2014. As often happens, prizes like this one, or the biggest heirloom tomato, or any other superlative produce, goes quickly, in the cool of the morning, as this head of cabbage did, at right around opening time, 8amCT. The market is open each Saturday, 8am-1pmCT, as it will be tomorrow. Growers are now bringing in produce of extraordinary quality now. Donna Jones is also President of the Adair County Garden Club. New members are welcome; she's scheduled to be at the market tomorrow, according to FM2 Market Coordinator Barbara Armitage.
