2014-06-01 - Public Square & Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Robert Montgomery accepted donations for the 2014 Crusade for Children on the Campbellsville Street entrance to the Square, which seemed to the the hottest part of Downtown, necessitating a stylish sun protection hat. The Columbia/Adair County Fire Department collected funds on the Square today on Crusade Sunday for Columbia and Adair County. This was the Sunday many churches held Crusade Collections. All the of the money collected in Adair County is returned to the county in the form of Crusade Grants. Last year, Adair County surpassed $1,000,000 in cumulative Crusade collections and is now work on the second $1,000,000 for children. A feature which makes this charity stand out from almost all others is that the funds are deposited in a local bank in an interest bearing account. The interest goes a long way toward paying all the administrative costs of the crusade, Chief Mike Glasgow said. - EW
