Epicurean Kentuckian: Strawberry/Blueberry Custard Tart



2014-04-27 - Farmers Market, 424 Public Square, - Photo By Ed Waggener. As a child, the first time I ever tasted custard, I wondered why any human would ever want to to drink anything else. Three score years later, I haven't changed my mind. Custard in all it's forms hints of Heaven - and this one, at the Farmers Market on the Square was quite a breakfast delicacy, the creation of Steve Chundy of Harvest Cafe, who used fresh strawberries and fresh blueberries to top the custard on pie crust tart. Great as it was, it will be better when local Adair County and Metcalfe County Blueberries come in, and when the strawberries can be bought right at the market. It was served right next to one of Market Coordinator Barbara Armitage's most appreciated innovations, an outdoor hospitality tent. There was usually one or more seats available during the day - but it was very busy throughout the event. While I was there I got to visit with a group from Adair Friends & Neighbors - excellent company, and watch the entertainment, the passing parade on the Square, and the steady stream of petition signers at Wendy Butler-Burt's station, and the candidates who have been finding a Saturday morning visit a must do. - Ed Waggener
