Reed & Smith Aerial View: Field of Dreams; Bus Garage

2014-04-21 - ACHS Baseball Field, 326 Gen. John Adair Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Larry Smith, The WAVE 92.7. A close up of the Field of Dreams and its neighbors As one incompatibility is being solved with the ADAIR Band finally scheduled to get it's own practice fields - there's still a crying need for a Performing Arts Center - another Incompatibility Issue is evident in this photo, the juxtaposition of the bus parking area near the baseball field, which too often results in foul ball damage to the bus fleet. Somewhere in the mental vision there's a plan to build a new bus garage with it's own bus pool parking. Estimated cost: $1-1.2 million, but the transportation direct says costs will be quickly amortized in reduced damage to the busses and savings in time, not to mention improved safety. (And, may time to recognize another Adair County superlative - the transportation department is arguably the best in the Commonwealth; indeed it is most frequently cited as a role model). Midway in the photo is the large white roofed expanse of Haskin Coomer & Son, one of the original businesses (How long? Well over half a century) at the northeast corner of Walker & Hudson Streets. And, too its right, the massive original campus of the Don Franklin Ford dealership, headquarters of one of the Commonwealths largest automotive groups and, seemingly, the fastest growing. - EW
