Wuss Warning: Snake in this photo (and following one)

2014-03-11 - Town Creek, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. With the warm weather come bad bugs - and their predators like this relatively harmless garter snake. We just give them ground. Let them earn a living eating things we don't like. Learned today that at one time, some folks co-existed with residential snakes. They called them "house snakes," which would stay in cupboards, closets and other crawly spaces. Not all of them were garter snakes. Green snakes were also house dwellers. We don't plan to try it, but there are recipes for garter snake soup online. Can't get used to that idea, but wouldn't fault another trying it. - EW. Paired Photo.
