Too early to think about gardening? Spring comes early sometimes 2014-01-20 - Harrodsburg, Mercer Co., KY - Photo by Mike Watson. It may not pay to think that growing season is a long way off, just because of the freezes we've had this year. There may be more snows, more freezes, but in the past several years, January 20 was well past the time to start watching for the first harbingers - most often crocus. Last year, the very observant Mike Watson wrote on January 8, of these fearless flowers, "This beautiful sunshine has coaxed the Harrodsburg crocus crop to sprout."
