Kentucky Color: Wild Turkeys feast on Beechmast

The darker hue of brown in the center of this photo is disturbed leaves which is evidence of a feast that was had by a flock of Wild Turkeys. As with most birds, seed is the usual main course and for Wild Turkey this time of year that seed is often Beechmast. Beechnuts are, to me and to many who have sampled them, the most tasty of tree nuts, even rivaling cashews and pecans. For us humans the little buggers are a pain to shell but turkeys just "gobble'm" whole. - BILLY JOE FUDGE
