Silent City 2013 - Wanda Beard as Mary Cartwright Garnett

2013-10-29 - Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Wanda Young Beard: as Mary Cartwright Garnett. Silent City audiences know to expect solid performances from Wanda Beard. This was one of her best presentations, a re-enactment of a woman not far from the memories of so many, of a woman born into a great Clinton County family, the Cartwrights and grew up on Lindsey Hill in Columbia and married into a foundation family, the Garnetts, but, as a relatively young widow, had to rely on her own enterprise after James Garnett died at age 45. Mrs. Beard's scholarship and detailed memories of her own time with Mary Garnett made a great life come to life. The presenter's wonderful incidental touches of humor brought smiles to the faces at this point. Some faces and people above: Gerald Coomer, far left; and from left in the arc, Cathy Cox, the lady in green; Barry Loy whose performance as Martin Luther Loy would be seen a little later in the video at the library, and, at far right, Mr. Richard Phelps, this year giving an unforgettable portrayal of Columbia's founding father Daniel Trabue.
