Grover Gilpin now 96 years young, blows out birthday candles

2013-10-15 - 400 Bomar Heights, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener. Dozens of friends came by to wish Grover Cleveland Gilpin a happy 96th birthday today, Tuesday, October 15, 2013, starting with an early morning group including Porter Stotts, Ralph Waggener, and W.M. Feese, Jr, to an afternoon delegation on hand for Grover to blow out 6 candles, one for every 16 years of his life. Holding he cake is Ashley Stearns. Mike Gilpin, Grover Gilpin's only son, is standing behind him. At left is Billy Keys. On the right are J.D. Montgomery and Blake Martin. Tributes to Mr. Gilpin were rendered by Robert Flowers and former Adair County Judge Richard Lee Walker. Flowers attempted a few lines of "Happy Days are Here Again." Judge Walker sang "Happy Birthday to You," as only he can. Mr. Gilpin's pastor, Rev. Neil Janes, pastor of the Columbia United Methodist Church said a prayer at Mr. Gilpin's request.
