United they stand, getting behind the scenes things done

2013-10-11 - 400 Quadrant, Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Billy Pickett, left, and Terry Moore are two people who get things done. Mr. Moore, CEO, of Allen Moore & Son, Electric, was checking all the outlets on the Square to make sure all is in readiness. "Electricity," he noted, "is the one essential in life. You can live without food, water or clothes, but not electricity," he said. "I'm living proof of that." He appeared to be appreciative of the intelligence shared by Mr. Pickett, who had discovered a nest of wasps in one of the electrical outlets. Pickett's eye for detail trained one of his most favorite holidays, Halloween. He's already worrying ahead about Treats on the Town, about whether enough business people, churches and organizations understand how much so many kids love the time on the Square. He shared some pretty incredible statistics. Last year, the Jaycees gave out over 1,300 cotton candies to kids, who waited in lines as many as 50 deep or more. The production strains the capacity of the Jaycees equipment and requires a lot of manpower to cook, catch, wrap, and do the off bearing. To get a headstart, over 800 cotton candy treats are prepared in the Tree House Secret Kitchen on Pickett Street ahead of time, he said. Treats on the Town is only three weeks from yesterday, on Halloween evening, Thursday, October 31, 2013.
