Green County Home: Summersville & Skyline Drive In

2013-09-29 - 5600 Hodgenville Road, Summersville, KY - Photo by Larry Smith. Alan Reed, flying his Piper aircraft, took us over the dearest spot in the world to me. You can see our house in Summersville, KY, where my mom, Betty Smith still lives and where she and my dad, the late F.H. Smith, raised seven children - Charles, Irene, Margaret, David, me, Dorothy, and Randall. The Skyline Drive-in, across the street at 5600 Hodgenville Road, is where I got my first job, working for Doug Ford, the owner and operator as the projectionist. The property is still in the Ford family, but Doug's son leases it to Jerry Cox of Nashville, who recently renovated it. When I was there, there were rows of speakers, and one of the big jobs was keeping them repaired and replaced. Now sound is provided by radio signals played ont he car radio. The little red roofed building is still the concession stand. - Larry Smith, Operations Manager, Shoreline Communications.
