Winter pansies welcome Fall in Downtown Columbia

2013-09-25 - From the Fountain Plaza, 100 Quadrant, Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Downtown Watch - The Adair County Garden Club's yellow winter pansies are brightening Downtown Columbia as Fall begins. The First Quadrant on the Square received another nice touch with a new awning at Grimsley's Jewelry, 102 Public Square. And, Tuesday morning, Donnie Rowe and the Columbia Street Department cleaned and restarted the Fountain and turned up the volume enough to make it a more entertaining watch. The three restaurants - four with the opening of Sweets & Eats in the one time Dairy Dip just off the Square on Jamestown Street - are all having really good business, a good sign for the future of downtown. One other item we're trying to catch on camera - the Friday, 9amCT, "Walk-Around" by the pastries lady. It's becoming a popular local ritual. Busy officials, merchants, and professional people don't have to leave their premises for a morning muffin with their office coffee, the muffins come to them. Where else but Downtown Columbia? - EW
