Birds of Kentucky: Count 'em. Over 3 doz. Canada Geese

2013-08-11 - Off Pelham Branch Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Monica Thomas. Monica Thomas documented this flock of Canada Geese near the intersection of Pelham Branch Road and the Adair Veterans Memorial Bypass. There appear to be over three dozen - a lot - but just a small part of the species which, on some days, occupy every square yard of the lake on the Sapp/Cundiff farm across the road from this scene. The photographer was on her way to the Farmers Market on the Square, but cellphone camera ready, and filed this report. And, by the way: In many urban areas, the birds are a growing, invasive nuisance. Comments on the issue in this area are welcome. For most of us they are still fun to watch. - EW
