Magistrate Harold Burton - who serves District One on the Adair County Fiscal Court, is a one-man Tourism Commission, Board of Trade, and promoter for the scenic area of Northeast Adair County. He insisted that my favorite mother-in-law and I drive the mile or so out past his church, Bloomington Chapel, to take in the scenery on the dead end road. It's stunning countryside. And so peaceful. So natural. This scene was one Mrs. Marcum really liked. It reminded her of the Metcalfe woman who received a message from her son in France who said that when he got home, he was going to raise Charolais cattle. When the mother wrote to him, she told him she missed him and to be safe, and added, "I don't don't know anything about any Charlie's cows, but good luck with them when you get home." The cows appear to be leading very happy lives - far happier than the pitiful look on animals in feed lots - and the housekeeping would make anyone happy to be their neighbors. The visit - my first there in over the alloted three score and ten - gave me a Little Prince feeling. He had never gotten tired of the fabulous sunsets on his planet.
