A Time to Renovate. A time to tear down

2013-07-24 - Booster Field, 224 Gen. John Adair Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener. The long life of the Booster Field Bleachers has come to the recycling stage. The bleachers originally came from UK's Stoll Field, then saw service at Russell County High School, and finally, at Booster Field, once home of the Adair County High School Football team, now home of the Adair County Middle School squad. Yesterday, more than half of the old bleachers had been removed. New bleachers were approved at the July 18, 2013 School Board meeting, and should arrive in the next few weeks. In the meantime, removal of the old bleachers continues today, a new concrete pad for the new bleachers will be poured, and Boosters Field will be ready for the new season. The completion of the work may overlap the start of school - Wednesday, August 14, 2013. In the background, left Col. Wm Casey School will be razed. The demolition has been approved, and bids are being taken to remove the school and out of frame, John Adair Intermediate School. JAIS had been rated the worst facility in the state; Col. Casey made the top 10 worst facility. Despite the facilities, both schools were academic successes. As Debbie Nobles puts it, "It should come as no surprise that CWC & JAIS show academic success while being the worst buildings...when the priority is teaching rather than keeping up appearances, academics will shine!" - CM
