Fourteen nights late: The Town Creek Catalpa blooms

2013-06-09 - East Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. We've never figured it out, but our catalpa always blooms a fortnight late. Two weeks after the majority are in full bloom, our breakfast tree, and old one standing by the waters whose trunk has long ago fallen to the ground, starts to blossom, first at the top of the tree, but the flowers generally cascade down to a few feet off the ground before the town ones are gone. It's our favorite tree. Catalpa worm rights belong to good friend Dallas Richards, who makes good use of them most springs. - EW
