Joe Moore and backyard neighbor J.D. Montgomery

2013-05-05 - Fountain Plaza, Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener. Traditions. Excellence Joe Moore, one time official co-Keeper of the Clock with the late Carl Hutchison, back when the Historic Adair County Courthouse Clock kept perfect within 5 minutes time - and now the official Keeper of the Fountain in Downtown Columbia, took notes from his backyard neighbor, painting contractor J.D. Montgomery on Thursday. Mr. Moore was right pleased with his work, and it seemed to pass Mr. Montgomery's high standards of perfection. Mr. Moore is a man of tradition. The Fountain and the Clock just two of his passions. He was working the springtime fountain repair ritual into a heavy schedule which included getting ready for the annual Kentucky Derby party at Edgewood, the popular celebration venue he owns and operates with his little brother, Terry Moore. Every Adair Countian has their favorite Joe Moore tradition, but surely none is more revered than his classic adjournment of Columbia City Council during the years the electorate was wise enough to elect him to the post. Now that function of dismissal has fallen to Robert Flowers, one of Adair County's all time great speakers (Clean Potable Water oration; wedding reception classics), but, excellent as his adjourning motions are, he may be no Joe Moore.
