Agriculture getting greener: Solar Cattle Feeders

2013-04-15 - 1011 Campbellsville Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Few can help notice this equipment at Day & Day, a Solar Feeder. This model is seen being used for cattle on the company's website. The specs say it is designed to feed up to 20 cattle. It uses battery for storage for the solar power. It was Sunday and the store was closed when the photo was taken. Don't know if anyone has one in use in Adair County yet. Progressive Adair County farmer Mike Loy has six Solar Feeders in use - not sure of the size. An advantage is that cows snack feed instead of binge feed, according to Julie Combs at Day & Day. "That's much healthier for the animals," she said.
