Guardians of Clifty Creek Guard Ranch

2013-02-06 - Eastern Adair Co., KY - Photo by Miss Donna Rieder.
This is Josie and her buddy Jumpin' Jack Flash - They live in the lower pasture at the corner of Providence and White Oak Church Roads. "Flash" keeps any coyotes from coming in to eat the goats. They both enjoy visits and treats from passersby. Flash doesn't care for grownups so much but he loves little people, especially ones bearing carrots! Since the creekbanks overflow at times and would take out a fence, I just fence across the creek at each end of the pasture; much easier to replace just a wire or two. This has also kept out the 4-wheelers who used to use the creek as a roadway. Now there's an abundance of wildlife which lives down there: a great blue heron, lots of hawks and owls, as well as more fish, turtles and even fresh-water eels, dragonflies and so forth. People don't seem to realize how many lives they disturb and destroy when they take their ATVs into the waterways. There should be a law against it. - Miss Donna Rieder
