Epicurean Kentuckian: The Vindication of Johnny Vaughn

2013-01-06 - 202 W. Main Street, Stanford, KY. - Photo by Ed Waggener. It got off to a rocky start, but Linda and I finally vindicated the restaurant review authority of Johnny Vaughn, the celebrated Adair County raconteur, game food expert, and charter member of the Blue Ribbon Bear Board. To celebrate the victory over skepticism, we liberated one of the blueberry/strawberry cheese danishes from this cake stand prison, to take home and enjoy as a last supper Saturday night in Columbia, along with quite excellent take away coffee. Both made it almost 10 of the miles to Danville. Awesome. At The Bluebird - Southern Breakfast and Lunch, 202 W. Main, Stanford, KY. Phone 606-365-1010. - ED WAGGENER. If you go: The Blue Bird is about 1 hour and 15 minutes away by the proper, historic route up KY 206, 54.7 miles from 212 Public Square, Columbia, KY. It's closed Sundays. Open 7amET/4pmCT, Mondays through Saturdays.
