M & P Variety gets facelift 2012-12-04 - Public Square, Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Mary Davis, an owner of M & P Variety, modeled one of the two newly repainted and tightened benches in front of her store. The benches, which get a lot of use by customers at her store and visitors to other businesses downtown are painted red and black, the windows were painted white, and the ornamental iron was repainted to coordinate with her store and with other businesses in the 200-214 Public Square Octant. Since the work here and the renovation at Harris Law Office and adaptive restoration of the new home of Red Brick Recording, fully one-fourth of buildings facing the Square - the Western strip - is in high state of repair, and only one building is awaiting a new tenant in this strip.
