Rappelling Training: Testing harness tying techniques

2012-10-22 - Roadside Park, 2310 Hwy. 55 S. Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Suzanne Wright. Rappelling Exercise I saw a couple of fire/rescue trucks from Breeding and Campbellsville at the Roadside Park on KY 55 Saturday. I stopped and spoke with the Deputy Director of CTCEMS Michael Curnutte and he told me that they were doing their rope technique re-testing. He had said they have to do it every two years. It sure was fun to watch. - Suzanne Wright, Bear Creek Angus Farm The training was part of a 55 hour Technical Training course conducted by the Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department, which also included actual sheer rock cliff rappelling, and high elevation cross-channel rescue training at a location which the BAVFD asked not to be disclosed. Among those present for the training Saturday-Sunday, October 20-21, 2012, not necessarily in order or in above photo, were Campbellsville firefighters Adam Dobson, Tony Grider, Aaron Fields, and Jason Rainwater, and BAVFD Firefighters Chris Taylor, Matt Goodin, Jane Potts, Kyle Cundiff, Jonathan Beams, Frankie McNear, Richard Dewitt, Rockie Edwards, Mike Curnutte, Daniel Cook, Daniel Turner, and BAVFD Training Officer Brandon Harvey. Some of the firefighters are members of multiple forces, as is Tony Grider, a Columbia/Adair County Firefighter as well as a BAVFD and Campbellsville Volunteer. Permalink | Comments?
