Seventh of eight county storm sirens erected last week

2012-10-12 - Pike Pike, Greater Bliss, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Property owner Vicky Pike and Adair Emergency Disaster Manager Greg Thomas watch as workmen for West Shore Services lift the seventh of eight storm warning sirens installed by the company last week in Adair County. Tim Shuck is the opeator on the truck. Others with the West Shore Services crew were Ray Brand, the crew leader; Fred Skaff, and Paul Christiensen. The location is the second one drilled at the site. The first one, nearer the corner, was abandoned after hitting rock at six feet. The 50-ft pole holding the siren needs to be 7 feet in the ground, and West Shore, a sticklers for doing it right, likes to go down 8 feet, which they were able to do the second time. As of yesterday, October 11, 2012, the sirens still weren't activated or tested. Miz Victoria thinks her well adjusted cows - not so skittish as some she knows about - will be able to handle the siren blasts with decorum and serenity.
