Larry Smith Photo: Campbellsville, KY Main Street 1958

2012-09-21 - Campbellsville, KY - Photo from the collection of Larry Smith. Larry Smith, historian, and Operations Manager of the Big Dawg, 99.9 FM sends this favorite old photo from his collection: Looking Up East on Main Street in Campbellsville, KY. "That's a 1958 Ford coming at you," he says, "and the car coming in on the right is about the same year Chevrolet." On the right, there's the Merchant's Hotel when it was still going strong, when Main Street clerks, store owners, and professional people poured into George's EAT, for meals. The tower on the left is the Citizen's Bank Building which was fated to burn in 1961 on the same night as a late (but not so very late), suspected arsonist caused a fire at the Campbellsville Baptist Church. The top floor of Citizens Bank was later raised and it no longer vies with Big B as the tallest structure in town.
