The Day K. Scott won rick of wood; Annette won $11

2012-09-02 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo From the collection of Mike Watson. A charming coincidence: Not long after seeing the family group photo online,Celebrating the 80th Birthday of Fay McKinley; Annette's the girl in the red coat, I found the attached item. I was searching for a long-ago article I had filed in my "archives" and stumbled upon this clipping by chance. Printed in the Adair County News, 15 September 1948. Thought you might get a kick out of it. - Mike Watson. Thanks Mike - If I remember, Appreciation Days were used to stimulate a relatively dead day for commerce in Columbia - Wednesday. In my mind's eye, and with the magnified memory of advanced years, I remember the crowds for The Drawing to have been as big as Happy Chandler and the Bardstown Old Star Band, combined, could draw. Even without the 7 days of fame for being written up in the Adair County News, one had word of mouth fame far beyond that time - as no doubt Annette and Mayor Scott remember to this day. Coincidentally, Annette and Kenneth Scott may be the only two Adair Countians who still look like they did in 1948. Some things stay the same. -EW
