Whenever I behold a butterfly "buttering", to quote a toddler son in years past, I'm compelled to try for a picture. This black beauty couldn't be bothered with posing, though, because there was the sweet thistle to enjoy in the setting sun. The location off Hwy. 704 is atop the hill where we begin descent to my grandma Addie Turner's grandfather's homeplace in Inroad, KY., on Crocus Creek. - Linda Waggener
