Old Poster: Gordon W. Clarke for County Judge

2012-08-02 - Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo From CJE Office. Charles Grimsley passed this old poster on to Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton. It's from an election 63 years ago, so a few of Adair County's voters likely don't remember Mr. Clarke. He was an erudite man - maybe a little ahead of his time - and he did have a wonderful wife and popular children. He lost the Republican primary that year, but ran again in the fall as an Independent. You could do that back then. Maybe the poster had the "Republican" printed taped over and that has since fallen off. They lived on Greensburg Street, across from the Robert and Mikki Flowers/old Montgomery Place. Maybe readers will remember more and more about the elections of 1948. -EW
