Remember?: Lakeland Apparel ca early 1980s

2012-07-27 - 1380 Burkesville Road, Columbia, KY - Photo from the collection of Ralph Roy Waggener.
It was a time of boundless optimism
when the huge building for Lakeland Apparel was under construction in the early 1980s. Above, center, is James Brock, the president, and at right, partner Gaylon Yarberry and at left, Mike Ellis. Brock was Adair County Judge Executive at the time. Yarberry was the powerful, charismatic Adair County Republican Party Chairman. The plant thrived for a time, with employment reaching as many as 200. After Lakeland Apparel, the building housed Oshkosh No. 2 plant in Columbia, and later was sold to Ben Arnold to become the international headquarters of Image Analysis, the firm occupying the building today. Judge Brock now resides in the Nashville area. The Chairman now operates the popular Huddle House 24 hour restaurant in Campbellsville after retiring from his last position in education as Principal of Taylor County High School.
