Epicurean Kentuckian: Larry Smith & Famous Friends

2012-07-13 - 204 Courthouse Square, Burkesville, KY - Photo by Larry Smith, The WAVE FM 92.7. Larry Smith a dedicated Burkesville, KY, fan, took this photo of his famous friends there, from left, Heather Hannah, Mrs. Art Laffer, Chef David Hannan, and Economist and founder of Laffer Associates, Dr. Arthur Laffer, at the Hannans' restaurant, Annie Ruby's. Smith makes frequent recharge trips to Burkesville, and can't sing its praises high enough, but he has a hard time topping Dr. Laffer, who calls Burkesville "a diamond in the rough" and, Smith reports, "He says Anna Ruby's has the best food in the world - better than anything he's eaten in Paris, France." Smith says his lunch today was a big bowl of mushroom soup and a brisket sandwich, and he packed home a big slice of chocolate pie for another boost during the afternoon at the Big Dawg. Laffer was an advisor to President Ronald Reagan and is called "the father of supply side economics." His name is also associated with the Laffer Curve, which, Wikipedia says, he drew out on a paper napkin to explain his theories of taxation to Donald Rumsfield and Dick Cheney and others. He's regularly seen on CNBC, the business network. And, Dr. Laffer a part of the Downtown People in Burkesville, where he and his wife have one of their homes. If you go, Burkesville is the next major city south down the Columbia-Chattanooga Highway, KY 61, and is now about 26 miles away since the Kentucky Highway Department took all the kinks out of the road.
