Downtown: A changing look out a Firestone window

2012-06-19 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. The deleted Firestone Building window offers a brief window to inspect the intricate masonry work of the solid brick wall in the historic building. The Red Nixon construction company is moving at a fast pace to transform the fire gutted structure into a state-of-the-art recording studio for Mr. Mike Harris and his partner, Danny Bailey. Mr. Nixon, known for great craftsmanship, is also known for getting things done. In no time - maybe not as brief a time as it took him to fire a 30 foot shot the first time he got his hands on the ball when Mr. Burr put him in the game as a substitute, that usually took just seconds - he'll have the building complete and it will be the center of pride in a revived downtown Columbia. And come to think of it - Red will have luck or the good fortune that those who prepare for it always do. He had it back then. As most recall, he almost always hit those 30 foot shots and was the hero of the game. -EW
