Joe VanArsdale secured traffic checkpoint

Kentucky Highway Department veteran employee Joe VanArsdale was in charge of the traffic checkpoint at the intersection of KY 61 and Weed-Sparksville Road. Southbound traffic was diverted across Weed-Sparksville (historically: Meatskin Road) to KY 80 West, to Chestnut Grove Road at Nell. In the background, right, is the old Sparksville Grade Center, behind which towers the new Columbia/Adair Utility District's newest improvement, the 750,000 gallon Sparksville storage tank.
