Unforgettable Steve Wheeler

2012-02-22 - Photo by Larry Smith.
"It seems like yeserday," Larry Smith, FM 92.7 the WAVE says. "but there's hardly a morning I don't wish Steve Wheeler would liven the day by calling in as Peepuls Passmore of Dunnville, KY, and entertain as only he could. He was one of the most natural comics I've ever known. Some thought he was even more entertaining as a musician. Others remember him as a gifted teacher. He was all of that. More importantly, he was my great friend. A serious side of Charles Stephen "Steve" Wheeler, Adair Co., KY (1955-2010) was his dedication to his job as a dispatcher at Post 15, where this photo was taken - I visited him there and was impressed that anyone so witty, so funny, had a totally other side of his personality when he was on the job. Yesterday? It's been too long. Steve Wheeler died on Novermber 5, 2010: One year, 3 months, and and 17 days ago. It's been 470 days since his funeral. But his memory never fades. He was truly one of a kind. "
