Scenic Adair Co., KY: The KY 900 daytrip travel dilemma

2012-01-30 - Near the Village of Hardscratch, Adair Co., KY - Photo by Linda Waggener.
KY 900 connecting Cundiff, KY with the Village of Glens Fork aka Glenville, Glensfork, and more famously known worldwide as Hardscratch, is a highway for all seasons. It was especially beautifully Sunday, January 29, 2012, when this photo was taken at one of my favorite marking places, with the stream, the cedars, pines, and the white barked sycamore arching a protective limb over the the beautiful farmstead across the creek. And ahead, the road rises to meet you, headed past another favorite marking place, with its signature purple martin hanging gourd birdhouses, the legacy of one of Adair County's most wonderful men - the late Stick Harmon. It's all just a short distance from Glens Fork, with it many its picturesque and active churches, and sandwiches, gas, and a warm welcome at the community store. The dilemma: KY 900 is one of the few roads equally inviting in both directions. I let the sun dictate my choices. West in the morning, East in the afternoon. Either way, it is a day trip to recharge the spirit. - LW.
