Favorite Old Photo: Residence at Marcum Mill

2011-12-28 - Sulphur Well, KY - Photo by Geniece Marcum.
Geniece Marcum found this Favorite Old Photo of grand days of the Marcum Residence near the Old Marcum Mill at Sulphur Well in Metcalfe County, and wonders if it is still standing. (Since this photo and question ran, we have had word that the house is indeed still standing). She isn't sure of the occasion, the exact date in history, or the occasion, or the arrangement of the people in the vignette, but did note how pretty the place was with the landscaping, especially the shrubbery along the plank walk to the steps. Mr. William Marcum the mill owner, came from Hart County to run the mill, according to Tom Emberton. His wife, Harriet McClure, is standing behind Mr. Marcum. She was from Ireland, and spoke with an Irish tongue. On the far left, was Mr. William Marcum's sister, Annie May Marcum, who later married Egbert Boston. Elaine Downs, whose family members once lived in the house, said that it has been recently renovated and is still standing. Anyone with notes to add may do so using the reply device with the photo or by calling 270-384-3979. Suzanne Fancher wrote December 29, 2011, to say give an update on the ownership of the house, which her family now owns but is in the process of being sold to Robert and Dawna Walker.
