Big cats confront each other

2011-12-23 - Harrison Co., IN - Photo from the collection of Geniece Marcum, by Roscoe Emily.
Geniece Marcum found this photo of a 1997 meeting of a big house cat, showing no fear, with a fair sized - and threatening - cougar captured in Harrison County, Indiana, near the home of her son, Keith Marcum. Notes on the back of the photo say, "This cougar was captured in Nov. 97, in the Roscoe Emily woods. The cougar was caught on or about Nov. 5, 1997. Cat captured between Crandall and Georgetown, IN About 20 miles west of Louisville. It was young and about 100 LBS." Keith Marcum, while visiting in Columbia, said that cougars are regularly seen, particularly in the spring, migrating from east to west. He surmises that they are headed for the rugged Harrison National Forest, west of the county seat of Harrison County: Corydon. Crandall is almost three hours away from the Chance, KY cougar territory of Adair County, KY, according to (Google Maps)
