The Pain of Progress: When business owners Phylis Gooden of 4 Seasons Consignment and Stephanie Feese of C-F Supply came to work this morning, they were surprised by the taped off parking area in front of their businesses and wondered why they had not be contacted ahead of time. Mayor Harris, in the accompanying story, that he understands their concern, but it was a one-time failure of communications between the city and the contractor. There had been an assumption that with ample parking around the Square and on side streets, and sidewalk access, customers could still get to the stores. The businesses along the sidewalk being rebuilt, historically known as the Well Walk, were given detailed schedules, Mayor Harris said, because they only have access from their Reed Street back doors. He's hoping that the improved access to the businesses along the walk and to businesses on the Square will make the inconvenience well worth the wait. The Walk is expected to be one of the major routes for what is hoped to be dramatically greater pedestrian traffic from Lindsey Hill. Read More... | Permalink | Comments?
