A quiet understatement recalls so much

2011-10-19 - 712 Russell Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.

Sue Stivers managed a smile while posing with this improvised corsage, but there were moist eyes later (maybe you can see it). For tens of thousands who remember great times at the Circle R, this photo, to use a phrase banned from CM, says it all. Except maybe, "Couldn't you have found a big one?" People remember the food, but it was the people, the hosts, the personalities - those who made everyone feel that they would rather be at the Circle R than any place in the world - who made the difference. And none of those people left a more indelible impression than the late Sylvia Wilson - the woman with the big flower - on people who came to the destination place landmark drive-in from all over the world. The photo was taken prior to the Circle R's grand opening and ribbon cutting Tuesday, October 18, 2011. The restaurant is now open 7 days a week, from 6am-10pmCT.
