Birds of Kentucky: Black Vulture, horaltic position

The "bird in the yard" alarm went off this morning just after sunup out at Tucker's Station. Brownie Delight, CBO (Chief Birding Officer) with Tucker's Station's 4-legged security force has a zero tolerance for anything with feathers. Once she sounds the alarm the entire force provides back-up. Nobody sleeps late at the farm when the birds are on the wing. Apparently this Black Vulture felt safe on his perch about 60 feet above the ground. Wings held high he seemed to be enjoying the warmth of the morning sun on his back. At one point he turned and looked down at us as if he felt sorry for us poor flightless mortals. - Barbara Armitage
