The Changing Face of Columbia: Hurt Street Rising

2011-08-24 - Hurt & Jessie ST, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
An old residence was razed this week on property owned by Mike Stephens opening up a view of all relatively recent developments, including the new Family First Medical Center, middle right. At first glance, it would appeared to be tied to the medical center and Stephens' Office Park Drive, but the lot in the foreground will be filled and raised to Hurt Street level and will continue to be part of Hurt, not Office Park, Mike Stephens said, today. Danny Pyles Excavating is in charge of this site development and of the demolition of another Stephens-owned residential property toward Jamestown ST. In the background can be seen the United Citizens Bank of Southern Kentucky Main Bank and Operations Center at the corner of Jamestown Street and Heskamp Street. It's inside the bounds of the new standard, "In Walking Distance of Lindsey Wilson College."
