The Changing Face of Fairground ST, Columbia, KY II

2011-08-23 - Lindsey Wilson College, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
There's a dramatic set of facades peeking through to the traveler eastbound on Fairground Street at the swoosh traditionally remembered simply as the Jethro Davidson Harper / Joe Barnes & Sam Breeding / Grover Cleveland Gilpin / Pete & Creal Harris Curve. The focal point from this angle is the classic School of Nursing School of Professional Nursing. Beyond that is the roof line of dorms near Young Street. The tall columns, right, are part of Fugitte Science Center. The little garage went to the Ben Harrison place - still standing. The cars in the foreground are on the old Harris property. There are cars all over the hill now, as well as continuous building fronts, bringing back a memory the four decades old prophecy of the late Travis Scott, who said, even then, that Lindsey was going to swallow up Columbia, "It's going to cover the town like kudzu," he said. It virtually has, but everybody seems to agree, today, it is a super idea.
