Scenic Taylor Co., KY: The Cut, shortcut to Smith Ridge

Visitors to the Green River Lake Fishing Derby on August 13, 2011, can get a great view of The Cut, which connects the Green River State Park side of the lake, foreground to the Emerald Isle side, background. That's Smith Ridge in the background, Larry Lemmon, Park Ranger told us. By road, Emerald Isle is 11.7 miles away from this location. Green River State Park is a little over 14 miles/26 minutes from Downtown Columbia, KY, and just under 7 miles/17 minutes from Campbellsville, KY. The park is a too well kept secret about South Central Kentucky. There's a great campground, a Sandy Beach for swimmers, a small store with Wi-Fi (paid) and sundries, and a really cool Miniature Golf course. Larry Lemmon and Tyler Royse, both from Columbia, KY, are Park Rangers. Larry Lemmon is also pastor of the Breeding United Methodist Church. The park was managed at one time by Bobby Bowe, now retired in Flat Woods, District 4, Adair County, KY. Bowe is a very active board member for the Columbia/Adair County Parks and Recreation Board.
