Harris Building: Eye level historic details

2011-04-23 - 400 N. Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Columbia Barber Wid Harris was out early Saturday morning sweeping the sidewalk around the building at 402 Public Square which houses Mouser Real Estate and, in the same building, his own Towne Barber Shop. At right, (bricks are painted the same color as the building; camera setting was off), are details which give a hint of the building's history. The top right photo shows finger prints in the still soft, handmade bricks. The concavity in the brick in the lower photo is where, Mr. Harris said, old timers in bib overalls and long sleeved shirts used to sharpen their knives on the bricks. One artifact he'd dearly love to have back: The neon bordered clock which hung over the door when Casey Jones operated a jewelry store where Mouser Realty is today. He is hoping that perhaps someone will have at least a photo of the clock, if the clock itself cannot be found. The building once house the Columbia Post Office.
