Snow January 20, 2011: For Normandy/Jersey cow Dory 2011-01-22 - Old Gradyville RD, Gradyville, KY - Photo by Sharon Whitehurst. "Snort'n Nort'n, the stalwart Dodge Cummins," writes Sharon Whitehurst, "is ready to carry a load of hay down Old Gradyville Road. The hay is destined for Jim's cow Dory, who boards with Joe and Delila Yoder." She adds, "Dory is a Normandy/Jersey cross. The Normandy is an old breed originating in the province of Normandy, France. They became nearly extinct, but herds have been bred back. The Normandy or Normande as we might see it written is considered a fine breed for both milk and beef production. Most recently in the USA Normandy cows have been acquired by those who are creating gourmet cheeses."
