Veteran Councillor June Parson right has earned a reputation as the guardian of open records, openness, and council rights, on the Columbia City Council and as a champion for better sidewalks, and safer city streets. Her watchdog for the public efforts were validated in the last election, and she was sworn in again Wednesday evening, December 29, 2010. In the background is Sonya Roy, the new City Clerk, who, along with five of the city councillors and incoming Mayor Mark Harris, repeated the traditional Kentucky oath of office, including the affirmation they had never fought or been a second in any duel, administered by Mayor Pat Bell.
