Scenic Kentucky: Carriss Grocery, Southville

2010-10-17 - Photo by Ed Waggener. 7 Southville Pike, Shelbyville, KY
One of the delightful attractions along the new route to Shelbyville from Columbia, KY, is the turn marking place in Southville, Carriss's Grocery and Snack Bar, a name which simply doesn't encompass all the general store, which still has a woodburning stove. The new route from Columbia is to take KY 55 to Springfield, go straight through the light on KY 55 and US 52, onto KY 555, go straight over the Bluegrass Parkway, then right on KY 44, then, at Carriss's Grocery, turn left or north onto KY 53 and it's just 8 miles to Shelbyville, KY. The store has tables in the back and serves breakfast and homecooked plate lunches. It's a great place to escape the pressures of lawyering or operating a business in fast-paced Shelbyville, or for a traveller from Adair County to relax on the way to somewhere else.If you go: It's about 80 miles from Columbia, KY. A note, at this writing, October 17, 2010, directions weren't yet up to date in Google Maps.
