Sammy Kershaw: The man who packed the Columbia square

2010-10-10 - Photo by Frances Salyers. The Rusty Nail, in front of 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY
Sammy Kershaw connecting with Adair County as few other entertainers have in all history, left Adair Countians with a head full of memories. His concert to close out Saturday at Downtown Days will be remembered for a long time. It may even eclipse the previous concert zenith, the appearance of Jerry Lee Lewis in the 1950s and the wild scene at Adair County High School with the mercurial performer pounding Miss Russell's beloved piano as she would never have allowed, and the unforgettable impromptu performance by Bulldog Curry. Jerry Lee Lewis' crowd was just a fraction of the thousands who heard Sammy Kershaw last night.
