Lowe's Lane, Columbia, KY Bea Beard is dwarfed by one of several banana trees growing in the beautiful secret garden at her home on Lowe's Lane. The trees are particularly hardy, and stay out all year long. There's no fruit on this one, but one has to wonder what wonders might have been attached to the tree were her father, the late Haskin Coomer, still around. A talented prankster, one could imagine watermelons, even turnips growing from its branches were he to have had the opportunity to work with it. For sure, his famous pet bear, Hobart, would have found bananas and Double Colas to harvest. Mrs. Beard says she doesn't expect any fruit, but is enjoying the beauty of the banana trees.
